Introduction
For my this and final project this school year I decided to compare COVID-19 to the Spanish Flu. I chose this topic because COVID-19 is a very popular topic right now and I've been reading a lot about the Spanish Flu lately so I though it would be interesting to compare the two viruses consider they both were world pandemics, required the world to go into quarantine, and have similar symptoms.
History
For the history portion of my project I created a Venn diagram that compared the two viruses. The Venn diagram compared the symptoms of both the viruses, the patterns of how the two viruses spread, and similar precautions. To view the Venn diagram click on the button below.
Language Arts
For the language arts portion of my project I wrote a poem that discussed the similarities between COVID-19 and the Spanish Flu. Before I wrote my poem I analyzed three poems about COVID-19 and the Spanish Flu. The first poem I analyzed was "And the People Stayed home" by Kathleen O'Meara. This poem talks about the precaution people are taking by staying home during this time. The second poem I analyzed was 'The Spanish Flu" by Joe Bogle. This poem was written by a guy who was alive during the Spanish Flu and talks about the Spanish Flu. The third and final poem I analyzed was "The Great Realization" by Tom Roberts. The poem showed hope and had an optimistic tone about COVID-19. It discussed the way the virus is helping our planet and how we are all growing closer together. Art
For the art portion of my project I decided to create a painting that compares COVID-19 and the Spanish Flu. On the left side of my panting I have facts about COVID-19 written in red. I used the color red because that is one of the colors for Coronavirus awareness. On the right side I have facts about the Spanish flu written in green. I chose the color green because during my research I found that green is one of the colors that represents the Spanish Flu. In the middle I painted an Earth with a mask on. The Earth represents that both viruses are a world pandemic and the mask was to represent the fact that they were both viruses.
