Introduction
For my first Apollo project I chose feminism as my topic. I chose this topic because I have always been interested in learn how women's rights have evolved over time.
Language Arts
Since I was mainly researching the evolution of feminism I decided to focus on not only the past, but also the future. To portray this I decided to write letters informing and giving advice to my future self. To incorporate contextualization I wrote four different letters and each of them had a different topic. These topics include Equal Pay, Sexual Harassment, Abortion, and Balancing Work and Family. If you would like to read these letters click on one of the buttons on the right.

History
For the history portion of my project I researched feminism from it's inception to today. I then decided I would write letters to myself representing four different aspects of feminism. These topics include Equal Pay, Sexual Harassment, Abortion, and Balancing Work and Family. I incorporated contextualization into the history portion of my project by focusing on three different topics about feminism. The letters discussed what feminism was like in the past, how it has evolved, and my thoughts and feelings of each topic.

Art
For the art portion of my project I wanted to show the evolution of a housewife. To show this, I made a cake that was made to represent how housewives did a lot of baking and cooking for their families. The exterior of my cake is elegant, pretty, and pink. I decided to decorate the cake in this way because housewives were supposed appear perfect and feminine. In fact, it was frowned upon for a women to have short hair because that was more of a masculine trait. The inside of my cake represents a housewife's emotions. The bottom layer is a vanilla and chocolate marble, but you can't see the marble very well. This layer represents the turmoil that housewives in the 1950's felt. Most women in the 50's weren't happy with being a housewife, but they were confused because that was what they were raised to do and they were told this was how they were going to be happy. The second layer is green. This layer represents housewives in the 1960's-1970's getting jobs and earning their own money. I thought it was interesting that one of the biggest reasons women wanted to get a job was so they could earn their own money. Back then the husband was the one who controlled the money and would share the money with his wife because the wife ran the household. Some women felt guilty because they didn't feel they were contributing financially to their family and taking their husband's money because they felt that they didn't deserve it. However, I think that women earned that money just as much as the husband did because being a housewife was considered an occupation. Ideally the wife and the husband should be a team., but this was not always the case. The top layer is a confetti cake. This is supposed to represent women celebrating all that we have accomplished. Even though we haven't accomplished all of our goals yet we have accumulated many rights due to women's sacrifices and advocacy.
